NEXT FREE ONLINE STORY SANCTUARY RESCHEDULED TO MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 8 PM Eastern.
Has your life been turned upside down and inside out through a
frightening diagnosis, major loss, chronic stress, or community
Living Story is not only about writing and sharing what has already happened. It's about writing your way into a new reality.
Through this creative and communal approach, you will:
-Stabilize and free yourself from the isolation imposed by past or present life challenge;
-Become both more attentive and more detached from the present;
-Design a new vision for how you could live in the future; and
-Rehearse generative actions on the page before you take them into life.
The next free online story sanctuary will be Monday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m.
The theme will be "Illness as a Journey: The Shifting Moods and
Settings in Story."
I keep these groups intentionally small --
6-8 people. If you are interested in joining in a shared story and
writing experience, please write me at email@example.com
FIRST ONLINE STORY SANCTUARY: Finding the Deeper Story Together
FREE STORY SANCTUARY ONLINE
First Monday of every month, beginning Monday, August 1
8 - 9:30 p.m. EDT
Imagine a night sky filled with stars, a fire illuminating the
darkness, a tribal gathering where shared stories give information and
courage to face tomorrow's challenges. In the timeless, limitless place
that story holds in our psyches, we participate in this ancient ritual
that has empowered, enlightened, and shaped civilized societies from the
beginning of time.
With this new monthly
outreach initiative, I hope to teach an ever-widening circle of
good-hearted people how to bring the healing power of story to their own
lives, communities, schools, and families.
In this session, you will:
-access your creative mind, which is the entry point to a larger
reality inaccessible to the rational and strategic mind that guides our
- experience the unique intimacy gained and the support it
offers when we share our and listen to each others' improvised stories
in a structured setting;
- learn a very simple and non-invasive
method for engaging strangers in the sharing of stories, a practice much
needed in these bewildering and uncertain times;
- help to weave a
more deeply connected and conscious grid of people dedicated to a new
story for family, community, and country.
CREATIVE MINDFULNESS WORKSHOP
Holding it All: How to Relax and Enjoy the Chaos of Change
A soothing creative ritual in mindfulness, healing story, collage, and writing for people facing the challenge of change or wanting to cultivate equanimity in difficult times.
Times of change are filled with conflict and contrast -- the very stuff of creativity: light and darkness, flow and blockage, sudden openings followed by disappointment, brilliant insights and ideas at one moment replaced by anxiety and depression the next.
Believe it or not, this is a good moment: you have arrived at the metaphorical death before rebirth, breakdown before breakthrough, and chaos that signals a paradigm shift. You have come to the edge of what you've always known and now you stand face to face with the unknown.
In fact, the anxiety and depression you may be feeling are the heralds of change. They are calls from something new that is struggling to come forth in your life.
This workshop -- using intuitive construction paper collage and improvisational writing -- will give you easy creative tools to use daily, alone or with others, to see more clearly what is happening at deeper levels of your life. By creatively expressing your inner reality on the page, you will be enabled to see the subtext -- the story beneath the story that is taking place in your life -- and to support the fresh new reality that is emerging from stormy weather.
You don't have to be a writer or artist to get great benefit from this experience, but it will also be useful to writers who want to explore the subtext of work in progress and artists seeking renewed joy in their work.
A portion of the proceeds from this workshop will be donated to my sangha, the Community Meditation Center, a New York City non-profit.
This workshop is currently being offered through existing agencies, private groups, and wellness practices. I also integrate the themes into private sessions in my office or via Skype. Write firstname.lastname@example.org to book this event for your group or to inquire about doing this creative healing work privately with me.
THE STORY ZONE: AN INTRODUCTION TO STORY PRACTICE
This hour-long experiential presentation
introduces the basics of life as story. You will learn the elements and
vocabulary of story, how to apply it to your life on a daily basis, and
experience the unique connection with your inner self and others that
writing in the moment and sharing it with others can give you. The
catalytic energy generated in this workshop will uplift you and give you
insight into current dilemmas, even without directly talking about
them, and the confidence to take right action, if necessary.
This presentation is appropriate for house "concerts," lunch series, and relevant meet-ups. Write me at email@example.com to discuss a STORY ZONE talk for your group.
